By 1951, Henry Francis du Pont had transformed his home into Winterthur Museum. At the same time he began to build a world-class research library of books and manuscripts. Carefully preserved in that collection is Furniture Drawings, by John Ragatz and Son, a volume of drawings and photographs that includes a wide variety of furniture forms available to the customers in his Philadelphia shop at the dawn of the twentieth century. Hickory Chair Company's artists have adapted a circa 1900 image from Ragatz's volume to create the modern, 21st-century Edmond Sofa and companion Edmond Lounge Chair. The Edmond features elegantly flared arms and back with distinctive buttontufted detailing.
